Patrick Dougherty's "So Inclined"

March 5, 2010 — As promised, here is the third of the three Patrick Dougherty art installations that I've visited so far, the first two being Square Roots and the second Twisted Sisters. This one, So Inclined, was created in front of the Mahaney Center for the Arts at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT, in September of 2007. Like all of Dougherty's pieces, it only has a shelf life of a couple of years or so. As a result, at this point in time the installation might only exist as pictures like the ones below. If you want to read more about Dougherty and his work in general, see the OTIS entry on his Square Roots, which is a full article and not a lazy photo essay.

  1. It was still there as of last fall, when I visited the campus.

  2. I live in the Sioux City, IA, area and we had one of his works in front of our art museum a few years ago. A lot of people thought it was a stupid idea, but it was really kind of cool. It's been a while since I had thought of it, but your pictures brought back some good memories.

Oh... and I found your site through This is True's Bonzer Site of the Week. Cool, huh?

  3. I live in Middlebury, and I can say that it hasn't shown any signs of deterioration yet.

I got here through This is True too. What a surprise to see my home town as the latest post!

  4. Awesome. Welcome, all. Just wait until I get around to writing about the mummy buried in the grave in Middlebury across to street from this site...
