March 7, 2019 – On a snowy Sunday afternoon, I trucked out in the cold to a tiny island almost touching the ocean coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I was in the city to see an old graveyard, but this lonely sculpture jutting out toward the ocean caught my eye and pulled me close. Created by the late Cabot Lyford, it's called My Mother the Wind, and she's been staring out across the water for almost half a century.
